LILO problems

Hello good people.

I have a PC running Debian (sarge I believe) that hasn't been turned
on for awhile. The machine will post fine, but when it goes to run
LILO i am greeted with the following...

LI_ (underscore character blinking)

Has anyone experienced this? Is it simply an MBR thing or am I
looking at a hardware failure?

If it ran before and you haven't changed anything, it's probably a
hardware failure. Try booting a live CD, if it can boot from CD.
